Firefly Frenzy

Play’n GO is working hard to appeal to fantasy loving slot players with this game. Centered on an eerily serene magical forest, glowing fireflies join forces with indigenous fauna and flora to generate big wins. But do they actually?

As a High volatility slot offering a very enticing 10,000 x your bet maximum win, should we entrust our cash with all this otherworldly agriculture? Everything certainly sounds great on paper, but then again, it always does. So I’ve taken a walk through this forest for you, risking treacherous vines and poisoned fungi, all in the name of untold riches. Find out how my trek through the unknown unfolded.

Firefly Frenzy- Theme and Background

Enter a world of glowing fauna and gleaming crystals, set in a magical forest in the inky black of night. It’s definitely one of the more soothing slots I’ve played in recent months.

The glowing purple and pinks hues added almost as much calm as the very cool buddha lounge-inspired music thrumming through my speakers. Across the reels are a series of prettily designed flowers, mushrooms, moons, fireflies, and cards suits carved out of roughly-hewn sparkly gemstones.

The grid is bordered by twisting vines dotted with glowing fireflies. The entire effect is very impactful and enchanting in exactly the same way as the forest from the movie Avatar is. It’s almost a shame that such a place exists only within the limits of CGI.

But despite the glowing colors and lazy undulations of the symbols, reminiscent of a particularly enjoyable acid trip, this slot doesn’t have frenzy in the title for no reason. When you trigger the special features (more on these below) the grid comes to life in a flurry of activity, giving your eyes a work out as you try to keep up with the influx of spins and wins. But is it all worth it? I’ll let you know how I fared so you can make an informed decision.

Firefly Frenzy - Gameplay

With only two special features on offer in Firefly Frenzy, you’d be forgiven for feeling a little concerned about payout potential. But I assure you that they’re two very excellent features that come into play often, and rather effectively. Here’s more about how you can hope to get as close as possible to that 10,000 x max win.

Firefly Wilds

Given the name of the slot, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that fireflies are central to all the action. They stand in as Wilds, each carrying their own multiplier value. There are 3 types of fireflies:

The green firefly is your basic bug, standing in for all symbols except for the Scatter
The orange firefly carries a 2 x multiplier, standing in for all symbols except for the Scatter
The pink firefly carries a 3 x multiplier, standing in for all symbols except for the Scatter

All 3 of these Firefly Wilds can land anywhere on the reels, paying out up to the very highest values on the paytable, so there’s definitely a lot to cross your fingers about when they swarm across the grid.In fact, while the firefly wilds can travel alone, they can also travel in packs.

Should more than one appear on the same spin, their values are multiplied by one another. Two 3 x fireflies will become a 9 x multiplier, but the best possible outcome is 5 of the 3 x multiplier wilds piling up to give your an outstanding 243 x multiplier.

Scatters

To get things moving and paying out with a series of 8 free spins, you’ll need to engage the Scatter symbol. This is represented by a glowing moon and it can only ever land once per spin.

When it does appear, a firefly will flutter onto the reels, landing on the moon and awarding the spins along with a multiplier. The multiplier is set according to whatever multiplier was assigned to the firefly that landed on the Scatter. This could be a 2 x or 3 x multiplier.

But since the slot runs with a built in multiplier of at least 2 x, you’ll always walk away with something. The best part is that the feature can be re-triggered up to a maximum of 16 extra spins.

Firefly Frenzy - Payouts and Wagering Limits

When it comes to accumulating big payouts, your best bet is generating a firefly multiplier pile up. These can combine to give you a best case scenario of a 243 x multiplier. The Frenzy Spins will also offer decent value, helped along by a virtually guaranteed payout.

Firefly Frenzy allows you to place bets starting at C$0.30 and going all the way up to a hefty C$90. This provides enough variety to suit all budgets. The slot’s maximum payout of 10,000 x your bet means a very, very lucky player could walk away with up to C$900,000 cash if playing at the maximum bet, but the odds of this happening means it’s a serious long shot.

Firefly Frenzy - Final Verdict

Final Verdict

92%

High volatility slot lovers unite. We have found your new slot home. Not only is Firefly Frenzy well designed, but it offers the opportunity for mega wins in a beautiful setting.

Being realistic, you’re unlikely to get near the 10,000 maximum payout, with the actual chances of that standing at about 1 in 43 million. You’ll get better odds playing the lottery.

But you don’t need to shoot for the stars when you’ve got fireflies by your side, as the lower wins come frequently enough to stack up very healthily. One other point to the negative is that I would have liked a couple additional special elements; perhaps stacked wilds or higher individual multipliers, giving the slot an added edgy appeal. Overall, I recommend this extra trippy trip down the forest path.
