Red Tiger Gaming is taking us back to the 1860s when outlaws like Jesse James ruled the railways and train heists were as common as a smash and grab in Detroit. This 5-reel, 40-payline slot is giving us a taste of the Wild West, when men took to horseback in search of their fortune. And, in a way, that’s what we’re all doing here too, far more legitimately of course.
So climb on board as I review this Medium volatility slot to find out if it’s packing enough dynamite to have us striking gold.

For the first time in ages I’ve come across a slot that doesn’t drown me in irritating music on a short loop, or an overly bombastic epic tune that has me desperately scrabbling for the mute button. The Greatest Train Robbery opts instead for subtle sound effects that work perfectly to immerse the player into the theme.
The reels roll to the sound of a chugging train and very basic graphics are offset by a highly detail oriented background. The Wild West is alive in all its sandy glory. Saloon doors beckon and tumbleweed rolls lazily across the dirt track. The entire scene is set off perfectly by the slot’s features which allow for cowboys on horseback to gallop at full speed on either side of the reels, kicking up dust and throwing sticks of dynamite with gratifying vigor.
The symbols on the railroad style grid range between gold bars, gems, silver coins, gold nuggets and the smirking faces of our three bandits. The Wild in this slot is represented by an explosion and is one of two high-paying symbols, the second being the gold bars. The bonus symbol comes in the form of a large trunk of cash. A, K, Q, J, 10 complete the set.
The Greatest Train Robbery is a very active slot. By this I mean there’s a lot of animation that’s generally sparked by the activation of a special feature. There’s quite a lot to contend with and I worked pretty hard to grasp what was going on, but here’s a simple break down for you.
Three bonus symbols anywhere on the reals will activate this important, yet frustratingly elusive special feature. Also annoying is the fact that the number of free spins you receive is decided randomly.
Once you’ve kicked off your free spins you better hope that one or all three of the bandits land, because if they do they get to stick around until the end of the feature, increasing your payouts by doubling up with their personal special feature of dynamite explosions (described next).
Your bandits are a trio of stetson-sporting, horseback-riding, possibly semi-toothless cowboys who chase after trains and attempt to blow things up. Their purpose is a little haphazard as once they appear on the reels, they trigger a series of random features which all feel a little chaotic.
You’ll know when it’s happened though because you’ll actually see them come careering down either side of the grid, throwing a stick of dynamite and signaling the triggering of the slot’s three random features (each is described next). If two sticks are thrown then two features can be triggered on a single spin.
This feature will cause two or more of the reels to respin, and if this is one of two features triggered, the reels will only spin once. All symbols except the bonus symbol have an equal chance of landing during the respin.
The best part is that you’re guaranteed a win during this feature, though of course there’s no minimum cap so you might not end up with very much.
This random feature is my personal favorite. If triggered then a number of wilds will appear on the reels obscuring the symbols whose place they have taken. How many wilds you get to enjoy is entirely out of the player’s control. Red Tiger Gaming also guarantee the player a win at this point, but as above it’s important to remember that they aren’t guaranteeing a ‘big’ win.
The last feature, also guaranteeing a player payout, is when two or more matching symbols are selected from the reels to transform into other matching symbols chosen at random. At this point you better cross your fingers and hope it’s the gold bars as these pay out at the highest rate.
Much like our gritty bandits, you’re here to get paid so if you’ve scrolled straight through the review to this section, I salute you. All budgets are welcomed, with bets accepted starting at just 0.20 and capping off at 100.
This slot has 11 symbols in total, 5 of which are low paying symbols (A, K, Q, J, 10) that you’ll hit on fairly frequently in the base game. There are 4 high paying symbols represented by a bag of green gems, a single large green gem (ran out of ideas here boys?), silver coin stacks, and gold bars.
The Wild, represented by a roaring fire, and the gold bar both pay out at 60 x your bet on a winning payline. To really hit big, and gun for that 2,000 x payout, you want to enter free spins mode within which bandit features could also be activated to give you a whopping double whammy of a win.
Final Verdict
The game designers worked hard on this one, and I feel obliged to add points for the creative features and brilliant animations. At first glance the symbols might not seem particularly intricate, but the brilliance is in the accompanying graphics.
The slot incorporates many exciting features covering all the classics favorites from respins, to clones and mystery symbols.
The guaranteed wins are a really nice touch and the bonus features definitely build up payouts considerably.
Overall I would recommend this slot to anyone looking for the potential of a tidy sum with the added kicker of a romp through the Wild West.
