Pragmatic Play brings players yet another slot that’s a little out of the ordinary. Instead of the usual grid, the designers have gone for a 3 reel, 1 payline slot that comes with surprisingly high volatility and top prize of over 2,800 times the stake. I’m a firm believer that slots need to be a little kooky in order to stave off the boredom, but Pragmatic Play have been known to take things that little bit too far. Let’s find out if they managed to strike the right balance with Tree of Riches.

Tree of Riches - Theme and Background
Tree of Riches is aiming to reel in its audience with its ‘out of the ordinary’ appeal. Within a second of viewing the grid I could immediately tell that it was a Pragmatic Play slot. The garish colors, Asian theme and odd layout are all trademarks of this provider. The graphics themselves aren’t particularly sophisticated, but somehow this fits well with the kitsch theme.
Across the reels are different colored sacks (red, purple and green) bursting with gold coins, and a Wild in the shape of a golden tree with leaves also made from coins. The grid is set within a golden frame. Are you getting that there’s a lot of gold going on? The other major color is red, so it won’t come as a surprise that this slot aims to tickle the fancy of Chinese players.
Tree of Riches - Gameplay
If you thought that a 3 reel game couldn’t offer a vast array of special features, you’d be right. Tree of Riches doesn’t provide much in the way of excitement, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be rewarding. Here’s how you can rack up those big wins.
Money Tree Wild
It seems as though all the action in Tree of Riches rests on the Wild symbol, which also happens to be the tree of riches itself. It’s unmistakable across the reels, which only contains one other type of symbol. Pragmatic Play definitely kept things simple with this slot. The Wild can substitutes for all the money pouches, without exceptions.
Multiplier Wild Win
This feature is triggered randomly when you make a winning combination including a Wild. But it won’t happen every time, which is a little disappointing. Once activated, your win will be padded out by a multiplier, chosen at random between 5 x, 8 x or 10 x.
Trio of Wilds
If you succeed in landing 3 Wilds on a single payline (and there’s only 1 payline to contend with in this slot) then you’ll be rewarded with an exceptional win of 288 x your bet. This is also where you can achieve the slot’s maximum win because you can also trigger the multiplier feature (as above) on top of this. Potentially the prize could rocket up to 10 x, bringing us to the top prize of 2,888 x your bet.
Wild Respins
This happens if you land 2 wilds and a blank space on the payline. Then the wilds will be held in place while the other reel respins until a winning combination is created.
Tree of Riches - Payouts and Wagering Limits
Despite the single reel, this slot still works exactly like a regular one, using both coins and their denomination to determine how much is bet on a spin. Players can choose between 10 coins, with bets that can be placed anywhere between C$0.01 and C$50 per spin. That’s a very low minimum bet, which opens the doors to very small budget players. Most of the base game wins seem to payout at 5 x, which is a higher average than you get with most slots. It’s easy to track wins with this game due to the limited symbol variation and the fact that there’s only one payline.
Aside from this, the bigger wins come from making winning combinations of 3 Wilds, paying out up to C$14,400. But this can be further boosted if you’re lucky enough to pair the win with the randomly triggered multipliers. The biggest of these being 10 x, which can boost your win up to the slot’s maximum 2,800 x your bet.
Tree of Riches - Final Verdict
Final Verdict
Tree of Riches

Ok, so I’ll admit I was highly skeptical of this slot before I got started. I have a history of disliking Pragmatic Play slots and I didn’t expect any different from Tree of Riches. But it is different. The slot’s single payline and very limited symbol variation make for a strangely exciting game. It’s definitely fast paced, and even the undeniable dry spells seem to pass by in a blur. Base game wins are higher than average and it carries a decent win potential.
I will advise players to proceed with some caution because the volatility level can be a little brutal. But Chinese legend has the money tree as a type of holy tree said to bring money and fortune to the people, let’s just hope it will work its magic on you.
