Dwarf Mine

With helmets, lanterns, shovels, pick axes the reels display everything you need to efficiently make a large hole in the ground. The obligatory card suits are also featured but have been remastered and made to look rough hewn in keeping with the dusty, rocky gem quarry theme. As the title suggests, this slot takes place within a mine shaft. A ginger bearded dwarf is on hand, pulling the crank with each spin and looking mildly pleased when you strike a good haul.

The soundtrack is distinctly epic. Think Lord of the Rings when the gang is running over some hill or other in unison, getting ready to charge into battle with renewed enthusiasm. It grated on me after a while, and I got tired of hearing the crank get pulled so I soon went into mute mode.

Dwarf Mine is well designed with a clean and functional layout. There are enough interesting features to hold your attention, and I spent more time than usual playing this one. How do they manage it? By setting crystal collection targets on the left side of the grid. You can read more about how these work below.

Crystals and axes can be quite mesmerizing and Dwarf Mine is littered with these. But nestled among the usual suspects is a bonus power drill which allows you to bury even deeper into the mine, revealing a new grid line. The grid expands, giving you the chance to unearth another drill so you can expand the grid further. When I played I quickly hit three bonus drills in a row which apart from being quite exciting visually, also meant a nice little pay out.

Dwarf Mine is pretty straight forward. The slot features five reels, four rows and offers 1,204 ways to win. If you land three matching symbols on successive reels, starting from the leftmost reel, and you’ll start scoring payouts. Scatters will help you expand the reel more frequently, and when you do each scatter will expand the reel grid by one row, up to 7 possible rows.

With a maximum possible payout set at 3,904 times your bet and a RTP of 96.80%, there’s definitely something considerable to shoot for. Most profitable is the red symbol, offering 100 coins for five of a kind. The blue follows with a 90 coin offering if you can hit the maximum combination. There’s also the added kicker that collecting one more matching symbol on the reels adds a multiplier to the win.

The busy work of collecting crystals and drilling into expanded reels could give the impression of it being a high volatility slot, but it’s actually right about the Medium level. When you hit free spins, which is actually fairly easy, you’re essentially guaranteed a payout. Each time you collect a crystal you’re also paid out. In short, payouts are very frequent, if not always substantial. I hit pretty big twice in the space of ten minutes.
