Gold Canyon

The first thing I enjoyed was the country and western soundtrack, but that’s not necessarily a positive attribute for all players. I’m just personally a huge fan of all things cowboy. The musical twangs are perfectly set off by the occasional horse whinny and the trundling and rattling of freight carts. This makes sense because the backdrop is a mountainous scene, where train tracks lead the way up into the hills, waiting to be mined for gold.

The graphics manage to look extremely masculine and grown up, doing away with all the cartoonish traits that usually come along with slots carrying a Western theme. The Cowboy is joined on the reels by a series of symbols ranging from gold nuggets, Wanted posters, Sheriff badges, dynamite and horses. These are rounded off by the low value symbols of A, K, Q and J, which appear to have been hammered out of steel, allowing them to blend in nicely with the overall theme.

Gold Canyon’s special features aren’t particularly innovative, they’re simply re-skinned versions of things we’ve seen time and time again. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, after all, if something works well then why change it? Here’s how this slot’s features work.

Because of the Double Up feature, the maximum win of 4,774 x your bet is actually fairly feasible. Of course, flipping a coin to bring home a win is a highly risky tactic that will appeal only to a certain type of player. It’s not an expensive slot to play, with bets starting at 0.20 and stopping at 20.00. High rollers would have to consistently engage the gamble feature to make up the big wins they’re chasing down.

The 96.13% RTP is perfectly acceptable, but players will have to put up with a fair few dry spins before they see a return on their bet spend. The Expanding Wilds mean that there’s a solid opportunity for decent wins in the base game. At the absolute top end, with players spinning at the maximum bet, there’s the potential for a winning combination of up to C$10,000, this stemming from a 500 x your total bet win.
