Black Mamba slot review - Win Up To 5,000 x Your Bet

Perhaps game designers at Play’n GO have started to run out of ideas, and decided to dig into more obscure places for slot inspiration. Whatever the reasons, Black Mamba is a surprising game based on the members of a relatively unknown (at least in Canada?) Italian rock band of the very same name.

The slot plays out on a 5 by 5 grid and is accessible across all devices with bets starting from 0.20 and climbing up to 100 per spin. Gameplay is lively and active, helped along by cascading reels and multiple features. Think you’re ready to rock out? Then read on.

Black Mamba - Theme and Background

Obviously the theme is entirely centered on the Black Mamba band mates and their music. The group is formed of three women and a man, and each one features on the slot’s reels.

You’ll meet Martina Cori, Alexandra Maiolo, Fred Maragoni, and Cecelia Nappo, each incarnated as symbols you want to land. The remaining symbols are designed up microphones, headphones, guitar picks and drumsticks, carrying much lower values than the band members.

The grid is set within a pretty adept scene, which looks to be some kind of rock club, all decked out with posters, stars and rowdy fans. To the right of the grid is a stage, which showcases the members of the band one at a time. To the right are massive stage speakers, displaying the multiplier level as you spin.

Black Mamba - Gameplay

Much as the goal would be at a rock concert, this slots aims to entertain. It does this by offering players the opportunity to engage with multiple high tempo features. Here’s what it’s working with.

Cascading Reels

A signature style from Play’n Go, the cascading reels give the player the opportunity to achieve multiple wins in a single spin. That’s because winning symbols are removed from the grid and the remaining symbols drop down to fill the void. To really wring value from the feature a wild symbol will appear on a 3 symbol win, and a multiplier increases with each new win on the same spin.

Solo Features

3 of these are randomly triggered on non-winning spins during the base game, while one is a little more specific. Depending on which band member takes the stage to the right of the grid, a different Solo feature is performed. Here’s what each one can do:

Alexandra will cause 2 sets of symbols to be destroyed and removed from the grid, allowing new symbols to land.
Cecilia will add 1 of 2 wild symbols to the grid.
Fred will transform 1 set of symbols is into another type of symbol.
Martina will destroy the bottom row, zapping away all symbols except for the Wilds, and creating a Martina Wild symbol if other band members are in view. This feature can only be activated during the Concert feature and in the free spins round.

Concert Feature

The slot features a charge meter that gets filled each time you land a win featuring Alexandra, Cecilia and Fred symbols. You’ll need 6 symbols for each character to fill each meter. 4 charges will trigger the Concert feature and 6 will overcharge it, carrying the win multiplier into the feature. Once the feature is triggered each of the solo features described above will play out in succession, starting with Alexandra and then moving on to Cecilia, Fred and Martina. The feature will end once all Solo features have been performed.

Free Spins

If you manage to clear the whole grid with wins, you’ll trigger the Free Spins feature. The active band member plays the Solo feature on every non-winning free spin but the Martina feature comes into play on every free spin. Every win will also increase the multiplier. Additional free spins can be won by charging the meter – 4 to 5 charges will give 2 more free spins, whilst an overcharge gives you 4 more free spins. The Concert feature can be triggered during this feature, giving you the chance to clear the grid for a prize of up to 50 x.

Black Mamba - Payouts and Wagering Limits

Volatility is exceptionally high in Black Mamba, so players should be prepared to sweat things out for a while before they see any return on their bet spend. This is tempered by lively gameplay.

So where can you expect to make your money? All wins can be formed by landing 3 or more either horizontally or vertically. The game logo stands in as the Wild and can substitute for all symbols. Martina is the band’s lead singer and she’s also the slot’s second Wild carrying a 2 x multiplier. She can also generate 6 x or 50 x your stake for 4 or 5 in a winning combination. But the game’s maximum win is set at 5,000 x your bet, meaning that betting at C$100 a spin could land you with a grand prize of C$500,000.

At this point I would like to caution you with some harsh realities. While that sounds like a great opportunity, the actual chances of achieving Black Mamba’s top win is set to less than 1 in 100 million.

Black Mamba - Final Verdict

Final Verdict

Black Mamba

87%

Black Mamba is an interesting slot. The theme is based on a band that many people would have never heard of, so it’s a slightly odd choice by Play’n GO. But even if you aren’t bothered about rock bands, you’re still likely to enjoy the slot, which comes jam packed with exciting and rewarding features. That being said, volatility is set to Play’n GO’s maximum level, so it isn’t for the faint hearted. I would recommend most players to give this slot a whirl, but not to hold out much hope for the top prize, which is exceptionally difficult to achieve.
